LUCID registration: explained step by step
LUCID is the public packaging register of the German register agency (Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister). Every seller who ships packaged goods to Germany has to be registered there. Under German law you have to register yourself, no service provider may do it for you. Registration is free of charge and takes about 15 minutes.
What you need at hand
- company name and address as they appear in the commercial register of your country
- EU VAT number or national taxpayer reference number
- the national identification number of your company (for example the commercial register number)
- the brand names under which your goods are sold
- a second e-mail address of your company as a recovery contact
How the registration runs
Create the login: open lucid.verpackungsregister.org and start the registration for producers. You enter your company name, the responsible person and the e-mail address for the login, and you choose a password.
Confirm the activation e-mail: LUCID sends you an e-mail with a link. Click it within 24 hours, otherwise LUCID deletes the login. Check your spam folder as well.
Log in: log in with your e-mail address and your password. You have 7 days for the application, counted from creating the login.
Master data: at first LUCID shows only the field “Country”. Once you have filled it in, the remaining sections appear: address, telephone number, VAT or taxpayer reference number, national identification number and a second e-mail address. In the same step you enter us as your authorised representative: you type our ID and select us from the list. Finally you confirm with 2 checkboxes that you appointed us in writing.
Details about the packaging: LUCID shows 8 checkboxes in 2 groups. Anyone shipping to private end customers in Germany selects exactly one of them.
Brand names: enter every name under which your packaged goods are sold in Germany, one by one. Only umbrella brands, no sub-brands.
Summary and submission: LUCID shows you all your entries once more. Check them, tick the 3 mandatory boxes and send the application.
Send us your registration number: At the end LUCID gives you your registration number: DE and 13 digits. Without it we cannot confirm the appointment. Forward the e-mail from the register agency to info@rr-vivendi.de.
Frequent pitfalls
- Several tax numbers: LUCID accepts exactly 1 number. Enter the EU VAT number you use for your German business, or the national taxpayer reference number instead.
- Forgotten brands: list every brand name under which your goods are sold, including your own brands on marketplaces.
- Skipped representative: LUCID marks this section as optional and the application can be submitted without it. If the entry is missing, LUCID does not show that we represent you.
What happens after the registration
Keep your registration number at hand: marketplaces such as Amazon ask for it in your seller account, and the system participation runs under this number as well.
